Bio

My own callings have been many and various. My primary professional vocation is as a Christian theologian and ethicist, but I have also found myself called into academic administration and into various leadership roles in faculty development initiatives. I came to Hope College in 2003 as the Director of The CrossRoads Project, Hope's Lilly-funded Program for the Theological Exploration of Vocation. In 2008, I was asked by the CIC to organize a conference on Vocation in Undergraduate Education, which eventually led to the founding of NetVUE. Over the past decade, I have found myself called to work with others on their writing, which led me to the other two positions that I hold: Director of the Klooster Center for Excellence in Writing (at Hope), and Director of the Scholarly Resources Project (for NetVUE). I live in Holland, Michigan with my wife, Marlies; I also have two adult children, Nick and Lee. We all enjoy travel, languages, art museums, theater, hiking, and food.
